When New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer announced today he will be leaving office in the wake of a sex
scandal involving his use of call girls, many wondered how he could allow himself to get caught up in this situation.
After all, he was considered to be a moral crusader and a top-ranked foe of corruption - that is what propelled him to the office of governor. He had even actively cracked down on prostitution earlier in his career as a prosecutor.
How could he cross the line?
If you want the answer to why powerful men are so reckless, why not ask the women who provide the services? That’s what the Today show did when they interviewed a former Hollywood madam and a high-priced call girl Wednesday.
The conclusion: their clients who were powerful politicians and high-ranking law enforcement officers - the ones empowered to create laws and force others to obey them - often considered themselves to be above the law. They don’t see why they have to follow the rules that ordinary people do.
In other words, they have a god-like view of themselves.
