In the shadow of New Madrid

Saturday, April 19th, 2008 by acrawford

I grew up in Western Kentucky, about 100-150 miles from the center of the New Madrid Fault zone. Our house was in the obliteration zone, and my family was always prepared for “the big one.” So it’s surprising to me that so many people are generalizing that those in the Midwest are oblivious to the earthquake danger in light of the 5.2 quake that hit Friday. That’s what we call a “hasty generalization.” And it’s unfair to clump us all in one blind boat. (more…)

Relay For Life blog

Monday, April 14th, 2008 by acrawford

Some of you have been asking where was my Relay for Life blog because you could not find it here. Well, it is here now, though a few days after the fact. I now have more photos for you to see. As I finally got around to working on them. I slept most of yesterday (even though Jason kept prodding me awake) and needed the catchup. So if you want to check out how my Saturday went read on. Special Sauce

Saturday, April 5th, 2008 by acrawford

BY AMY CRAWFORD, 33.10 CONTENT EDITOR

We are having hamburgers for dinner tonight. I am looking forward to them because I like spicy mustard on only two things in my food repertroire: hamburgers and hot dogs. And the occasional sandwich. But mostly, I avoid eating condiments unless it’s Heinz ketchup for French fries (or other fried or baked potato) or sweet relish for the hot dogs. But for mustard I’ll make an exception as long as it’s Cleveland’s finest.

For those of you in the know, you’ll probably agree that it’s the best mustard out there. For those of you who don’t, well, you’ll just have to continue missing out. Why? Because that means more for me. :-)

It’s dog-gone time

Monday, March 31st, 2008 by acrawford

It’s about time the city of Yuma decided we needed a dog park. It’s not like folks haven’t been asking for one for years. Hey city? Remember that survey you all asked folks to fill out a few years ago? Several of my co-workers helped out and all of us voted for a dog park. Let’s make this happen.

Book nook II

Saturday, March 29th, 2008 by acrawford

I have started reading “Of Human Bondage,” the “challenge” read for the next three weeks. Problem is, I’ve gotten to the part where the protagonist wants God to make his club foot perfect — an overnight miracle, if you will. And I don’t want to read more, because I’ve prayed that prayer, too.
