Tree is gone

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008 by acrawford

BY AMY CRAWFORD, 33.10 CONTENT EDITOR

The palm tree has a new home on a ranch out in the county somewhere. The father of one of our reporters came and dug it up and gave it a new home. We’re so thankful. He was a very knowledgeable plant person and gave us some good tips on other items we had growing in the yard.

We did not get anything planted in the hole yet though, but our house guest didn’t notice. She spent most of her time in the backyard enjoying the shade of the ficus and the cool breeze.

We’re open to suggestions though. Perhaps we can have a “find the right plant for this space” contest.

Yuma poets talented

Monday, April 28th, 2008 by acrawford

BY AMY CRAWFORD, 33.10 CONTENT EDITOR

I have to tell you all that Yuma is home to some great writers and budding word smiths. Most of my time has been taken up with getting ready for my mom’s visit on Tuesday. But when I got to work on Sunday, I had a slew of poetry entries ready to go. Some of the poems are quite good. I wish I could share them with you, but alas, you’ll have to wait until Thursday when the online voting starts at

There’s a kitten on the roof

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008 by acrawford

Apparently, our building has been having some AC problems and our gallant facilities department has been working on the problem. While up there today, they discovered the source of the woe — kittens! A mama cat had gotten up on the roof of The Sun’s building and had three wee ones inside the AC unit.

Some folks have wondered how a cat can get on a roof. Well, I’ve always known cats to be good climbers and where there is a will, there is usually a way.

Our own circulation assistant Julie P is saving the kittens. One has already been adopted, but here are some photos of the other two. If you would like to adopt one, please call our circulation department and ask for her. The number is 539-6900.

Answer our prayers, steal this tree!

Monday, April 21st, 2008 by acrawford

Jason and I are working in the yard quite a bit right now before the summer heat sets in. We’ve decided to go with more desert-like landscaping in the front and this means one of the trees must go. (more…)
